Normalising autism

Autism or autism spectrum disorder, a condition still unknown to many

Raising a child with autism o autism spectrum disorder (ASD) means that many families face daily challenges. A lack of social understanding, a shortage of resources in the early stages and the constant need to adapt turn everyday life into a struggle for something that most people take for granted: an accessible environment where a child can learn, play and socialise without barriers.

Despite progress in raising awareness of the autism, there is still a great deal of ignorance about what it really means to live with this condition. It is estimated that around 1 in every 100 people in Spain has some form of ASD, which highlights the urgent need to improve access to resources, therapies and support for both children and their families.

Today, in EdTech Generation, we spoke to Nani Casado, a psychologist working with the Grenada Autism Association, who will help us to better understand how we can improve the quality of life of children with autism spectrum disorder and what measures can be taken to ensure their inclusion in society.

To ensure their inclusion in society, it is essential that educational, healthcare and employment institutions adapt their methodologies and resources to the needs of people with TEA. Early detection, access to personalised treatments and support for families are key to ensuring a better quality of life.

Furthermore, the Social awareness plays a crucial role. Dispelling myths and breaking down barriers helps to create more accessible environments. Initiatives such as inclusive education and adapted employment programmes enable people with autism spectrum disorder to realise their full potential and lead a fulfilling life.
