Myths about autism
‘Lack of awareness’ is the phrase that best describes the reality surrounding Autism Spectrum Disorder. In Spain, 1 in every 100 people have this condition these being the only figures for which there is a record.
In this regard, there are myths surrounding its origin or treatment which have led to these people being mistakenly regarded as ill.
“Autism is a condition one is born with and, as such, there is no cure. Thanks to research, therapies and early intervention, the effects are becoming less and less debilitating, but it is not a disease.”
These are the words of the expert in neuropsychology and early intervention from the Granada Autism Association, the second guest on this second series of Generación EdTech. In this episode, cWe will get to know people with ASD very closely, and learn about the different types of autism or the importance of the early intervention to improve their lives.
“Sheldon Cooper from *The Big Bang Theory* or *The Good Doctor* are examples we can associate with high-functioning autism. The spectrum is as diverse as people themselves.”
