Ángeles Schjaer: “The journey doesn’t end the day you set foot on European soil; that’s when a much longer journey begins”

Open Arms interview
  • Generación EdTech kicks off its new season with an inspiring interview with Ángeles Schjaer, coordinator of the Education Department at Open Arms.

Following a successful first series, with guests who plunged us headlong into current dilemmas such as the mental health awareness, the impact of AI on the education sector o equality in sport, Generación EdTech is kicking off an exciting second series.

If you don’t want to miss the new episodes and are keen to discover the stories brought to us by the characters from Open Arms, Autism Granada o Proyecto Hombre This September, keep an eye on the platforms iVoox, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and the official website of the EDUCA EDTECH Foundation.

Ángeles Schjaer kicks off the new season by analysing the migration crisis

So far this year, more than 31,000 people have risked their lives to enter Spain in search of a better future. In total, this figure represents an increase of more than 12,000 people compared with 2023, a rise of 66.2% on the previous period.

“When you leave your family and friends behind and decide to risk your life in such a dangerous way, you obviously have to be very desperate to do that. And it’s not just the desperation of the person who emigrates, but also the desperation of the family left behind, waiting to hear from that person.”

These are the words of the coordinator of the Open Arms Department of Education, Ángeles Schjaer, the first guest on this second series of Generación Edtech. Together with the star of this first programme, we’ll embark on the journey of someone undertaking this journey and discover her approach to how the education could be the driving force behind social change.

“At Open Arms, we talk about migration as something natural, not as a problem. We also address issues such as fake news and the use of language, because it’s essential.»

These issues, amongst many others, will be discussed at the EdTech Foundation podcast
