Education today: teaching on TikTok, inspiring on podcasts

The TikTok teacher talks to us about education today

Education today is no longer confined to the four walls of a classroom.
These days, knowledge is conveyed through 15-second videos, Instagram Stories and podcasts you can listen to on your way to work. Platforms such as TikTok, Spotify and YouTube are redefining how, where and why we learn.

In our latest episode of EdTech Generation, we spoke to Juan Jesús Pleguezuelos, better known as The restless teacher, a teacher who has fully grasped this transformation.

TikTok, podcasts and new ways of learning

Juan Jesús has thousands of followers on social media, podcasts that are on the verge of going viral, and a loyal community that is hooked on the story like never before. His approach is far from superficial: It is purpose-driven educational innovation.

“A TikTok video isn’t a substitute for a lesson, but it can be the perfect hook to spark curiosity.”.

With short videos covering everything from the Treaty of Versailles to study techniques, he has achieved the unthinkable: getting young people to ask for more academic content.

The podcast as an extended classroom

In The Restless Teacher podcast (in our episode on Generación EdTech), Juan Jesús also spoke to us about the power of audio:

“The podcast allows me to go into things in depth. It’s a space where I can reflect, develop ideas and share real insights… without the algorithm interrupting me.”.

In contrast to the immediacy of TikTok, podcasts offer calm, active listening and a more intimate connection with the listener. They are the extended lesson of the 21st century.

From teacher to creator: the hybrid profile

Education today demands much more than simply imparting knowledge. It requires:

  • To connect emotionally with the pupil.
  • Knowing how to tell stories that captivate.
  • Handling digital formats with authenticity.

“We are living in the age of distraction. The challenge is to ensure that people don’t just focus on what goes viral, but on what is valuable.”.

Juan Jesús is in no doubt: teachers must also be communicators, content strategists and champions of critical thinking.

Conclusion

Education today does not shy away from depth, but it does call for new approaches.
And those channels are on TikTok, in podcasts, and in the formats that young people consume every day. What changes is the medium, not the mission: to inspire, guide and transform.
