Angeles Schjaer kicks off the new season by analysing the migration crisis

So far this year, more than 31,000 people have risked their lives to enter Spain in search of a future. In total, this figure represents an increase of more than 12,000 people compared with 2023, 66.2% more than in the previous period.

«When you leave family and friends behind and decide to risk your life in such a dangerous way, you obviously have to be very desperate to do that. And it’s not just the desperation of the person who emigrates; it’s also the desperation of the family left behind, waiting to hear from that person.»

These are the words of the coordinator of the Open Arms Education Department, Ángeles Schjaer, the first guest on this second series of Generación Edtech. With the star of this first programme, we will set out on the journey of someone who is undertaking this journey, and we will learn about her approach to how education can be the driving force behind social change.

«At Open Arms, we talk about migration as something natural, not as a problem. We also address issues such as fake news and the use of language, because this is fundamental.»
