It is with great enthusiasm that we introduce one of the members of the Advisory Committee on Academic Innovation from the EDUCA EDTECH Foundation, Dr Aitor Curiel López de Arcaute, a specialist in legal and forensic medicine, criminologist and criminal investigator, who brings a rigorous and transformative scientific perspective and whose career combines science, teaching and technology.
Education and early achievements
Dr Aitor Curiel began his training by studying for a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Valladolid, which enabled him to lay the foundations of his knowledge in that field, which he has subsequently applied to the field of forensic medicine.
To complement his skills, he studied for a degree in Criminology at the University of Alicante, before going on to complete a PhD with a thesis entitled “Earprints as a method of human identification: scientific and legal validity in Spain” in 2009, which was rated as “outstanding’ “”Cum Laude’, which reflects their academic excellence.
He subsequently continued his training in various fields of legal and forensic medicine and criminology, establishing himself as a well-rounded and up-to-date professional who, thanks to his career and expertise, brings significant value to the Foundation.
Career and key contributions
In the academic sphere, Dr Curiel began his career as a lecturer and researcher, working at various universities, including the University of Granada, Rey Juan Carlos University and the University of Valladolid, amongst others.
In the field of research, he has established himself as the creator and pioneer of the fingerprint as a method of identification, a subject he explored in his doctoral thesis.
Accordingly, his outreach and academic work has been reflected in the numerous conferences, presentations, seminars, publications and advanced courses he has led in these fields, thereby demonstrating his technical and communication skills, including awards such as the Gold Medal for Academic and Professional Merit from the International Institute of Applied Criminalistics, amongst others.
