It’s not just drugs: here’s how digital addictions trap you

New technologies, new addictions

As you know, ours is a society of constant stimuli that lives at a fast pace and craves instant gratification; we have addictions.

We live amidst constant dopamine highs provided by the new technologies, to the extent that we have normalised and trivialised concepts such as to be hooked on something: a TV series, a video game, a mobile phone…

These are new forms of addiction that are rooted in old habits. Addictions which, unfortunately, join the old familiar ones that are still there, lurking: alcohol and other drugs, both soft and hard. It is within this dichotomy – between new problems and the old familiar ones – that the Proyecto Hombre association brings all its experience and expertise, built up over 40 years of treating addiction.

So today, on Generación EdTech, we have Manuel Mingorance, president of Proyecto Hombre in Granada, to help me understand the origins of addiction and how the various factors interplay old ghosts alongside the new ones, who are very tech-savvy.

Are we facing a problem that will only get worse? What solutions are there? Let’s find out.
