Part of that purpose involves recognising those who, through academic research, are building the knowledge of the future.

The Awards for Academic Excellence These are part of the EDUCA EDTECH Foundation’s commitment to showcasing that talent. The call for entries is aimed at final-year undergraduate projects, master’s dissertations and doctoral theses that stand out for their innovation, methodological rigour and ability to make a real impact. In this first edition, the judging panel has selected five projects, one from each area of specialisation.

Exact and Natural Sciences

Safarana Baksh — Master’s Thesis

Safarana’s work analyses the relationship between atmospheric gas concentrations, external climatic variables and monthly temperature trends in Guyana. To this end, it combines linear regression with Random Forest models optimised using Bayesian techniques, providing a robust methodology for understanding how the climate evolves in a region with very distinctive characteristics. A project that links advanced statistics with one of the most pressing questions of our time.

Biological and Health Sciences

Ismael Díaz Reina — Final Year Project

Ismael asked himself a question that seems simple but turned out to be fascinating: can flowers regulate their own temperature? His work analyses the thermoregulatory capacity of the common poppy (Papaver rhoeas), a species found in almost every field in Europe. The findings shed light on little-explored biological mechanisms and demonstrate that nature conceals surprising answers in the most ordinary of places.

Education and Learning Sciences

Silvia Maria Mendoza Salgado — PhD

Silvia Maria’s thesis addresses a fundamental question for the future of distance learning: what digital skills and soft skills do new students bring with them? Her research, which forms part of the Education 4.0 Model, offers a rigorous analysis of the actual profile of new students and opens up the debate on how to adapt online learning environments to those who use them.

Information and Communication Technologies

Trenton Fowler — TFM

Trenton designed and implemented a document intelligence platform capable of analysing scientific literature on a large scale and retrieving information semantically. This project combines artificial intelligence, natural language processing and systems architecture to tackle one of the major challenges facing research today: finding what matters amongst millions of documents.

Social and Legal Sciences

Valeria Lucatelli — Master’s Thesis

Zapatiños is Valeria Lucatelli’s project: a modular and adjustable children’s footwear system designed to adapt to the growth of the foot during the early stages of life. It is a project that combines design, functionality and a social perspective to address a real need felt by families. The jury has recognised it for its ability to generate practical impact through academic research.

These five projects represent more than just excellent academic work. They are proof that online education produces world-class research, and that talent knows no borders or formats.
The EDUCA EDTECH Foundation will continue to be committed to showcasing talent.

La Fundación EDUCA EDTECH nació con un propósito claro: demostrar que la educación online es una palanca real de transformación social.
