Every 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, <\/strong>a key date for reflecting on the role of women in science and technology, raising the profile of female role models and continuing to make progress towards genuine equality of opportunity.
At the EDUCA EDTECH Foundation, we firmly believe that Education and technology are essential tools for reducing inequalities <\/strong>and to build a fairer, more inclusive society that is better equipped to face the challenges of the future.<\/p>\n

A day to raise the profile of women scientists<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

International Day of Women and Girls in Science was established with the aim of to recognise women\u2019s contribution to scientific progress, <\/strong>as well as encouraging an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) from an early age.
Despite the progress made in recent decades, women continue to be under-represented in many scientific and technological disciplines, <\/strong>particularly in fields such as programming, artificial intelligence and data analysis. Highlighting their talent and creating spaces where they can excel is key to changing this situation.<\/p>\n

The gender gap in science, technology and innovation<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

The gender gap in science is not just a question of access, but also of sustainability, visibility and leadership.<\/strong> Factors such as gender stereotypes, the lack of female role models and cultural barriers continue to influence the participation of women and girls in these sectors.
Closing this gap is not only a matter of social justice, but also of progress: Diversity drives innovation,<\/strong> It improves decision-making and leads to more inclusive and effective solutions for society.<\/p>\n

R Ladies: equality can be programmed too<\/h2>\n

What is R Ladies and how does it help?<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

R Ladies is a an international community that promotes inclusion and gender diversity in the fields of programming and data science, <\/strong>particularly in the use of the R programming language. Its aim is to create safe spaces for learning, collaboration and professional development for women and people from under-represented groups.
Through meetings, training sessions and support networks, R Ladies demonstrates that Technology can also be built on the foundations of collaboration, support and equality.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the EDTECH Generation podcast<\/a>,<\/a> Here at the EDUCA EDTECH Foundation, we had the opportunity to speak with Linda Cabrera,<\/strong> a representative from R Ladies, who shared a clear and accessible insight into the current challenges facing equality in technology.
During the interview, Linda emphasised the importance of to create communities that support women from their very first steps in programming, <\/strong>overcoming initial fears and the stereotypes associated with the technology sector. He also emphasised the value of collective learning and of having real role models to inspire new generations.<\/p>\n

Ensuring gender equality in science and technology involves to expand opportunities, enrich knowledge and build a more sustainable future.<\/strong> When women play an active role in research and technological development, the solutions produced are more diverse, ethical and in line with society\u2019s real needs.
Furthermore, encouraging women\u2019s participation in these areas contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals, <\/strong>particularly in terms of quality education, gender equality and the reduction of inequalities.<\/p>\n
