Linked to sensors, big data, automation and energy efficiency, these cities promise to optimise everything: from traffic to water consumption. However, in the midst of this technological race, it is worth asking a fundamental question: what about the people?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the latest episode of the podcast, we spoke to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/educaedtech.foundation\/en\/smart-cities\/\">Ignacio Alcalde Marco<\/a><\/strong>, an urban planner and expert in strategic planning, who invites us to look beyond technology to rethink the true purpose of smart cities. What if a truly smart city were one that prioritises the wellbeing of its residents? One that listens, cares and evolves not only on the basis of data, but also on the basis of human emotions and needs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Humanising urban innovation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the interview, Ignacio Alcalde offers us an alternative perspective: that of a <strong>smart cities that are more people-centred than technology-driven<\/strong>. In contrast to the model of a surveillance-based, hyper-connected and automated city, he advocates an approach that prioritises social inclusion, sustainability and collective intelligence. Because, as he points out, \u201cthe challenge lies not in how much technology we incorporate, but in how we use it to build more liveable, equitable and resilient environments\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smart cities are not measured solely by sensors, but by a city\u2019s ability to adapt to its residents, to foster a sense of community, to respect the environment and to promote personal and collective development. This is where technology can play a crucial role: as a tool, not as an end in itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rethinking the \u2018smart\u2019 paradigm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a time when more and more cities are branding themselves as \u201csmart\u201d, this episode prompts a necessary reflection: not all technological solutions add value if they do not form part of a people-centred strategic vision. The danger is falling into technological fetishism and forgetting what really matters: cities exist to be lived in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We therefore discussed new indicators of urban intelligence, citizen participation, emotional urbanism and the role of education in building wiser, more empathetic and more humane cities. A conversation that inspires us to rethink urban design through care, listening and sensitive intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What would your ideal smart city be like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This episode is an invitation to open your mind and question the prevailing narrative. To understand that the <strong>smart cities<\/strong> It is not the most connected cities, but those that best connect people.
